How Patch 3.4 Changes D2R Builds for Every Class
The Patch 3.4 notes list no class skill changes, so build impact comes from gear. Here is what each of the eight classes gets, from The Atlantean for Zealots to Eternity bows for Amazons, and why the Assassin got almost nothing directly.
The Patch 3.4 notes list no class skill changes. They cover items and bug fixes only, so any build impact comes from gear: a stronger Zeal weapon for Paladins, a better Fire Ball staff for Sorceresses, a bow option for Amazons, and not much for Assassins. Season 16 hasn't launched, so every build read below is a prediction.
The item changes apply to Reign of the Warlock on Online Ladder and Offline. Online Non-Ladder, Classic and Lord of Destruction keep the old stats. The source is Blizzard's Season 16 announcement, and the complete before-and-after tables are in our Patch 3.4 notes breakdown.
Patch 3.4 Class Changes: What the Notes Say
We read the notes for class-specific lines and found only item affixes tagged for a single class, such as Druid Only or Paladin Only. These notes list no class skill changes, so nobody got a skill rebalance. If you see a claim that a skill was buffed, check it against the notes first. The Season 15 item changes also reach Non-Ladder in Season 16, which matters for Bane Ash and Gravenspine users below.
Paladin, Barbarian and Amazon: The Melee and Bow Classes
Paladin: The Atlantean and Zeal
The Atlantean drops from level 42 to 35, rolls +250-300% ED and adds +2-5 to Zeal on top of +2 Paladin skills, so up to +7 Zeal levels. On paper it should be the Zealot's leveling sword, at about 114 per hit on its Ancient Sword base. It will not stay your weapon, because a Grief averages about 420 per hit at level 99 by our math. Use the Atlantean to get there, then replace it.
Barbarian: Demonhorn's Edge and Two-Handed Axes
Demonhorn's Edge goes from 10% to 20% IAS and adds +1 to Barbarian skills. Arreat's Face still has the better skill bonus, so we'd call it probably not enough for most. The more interesting Barbarian gear is the two-handed axes: Ethereal Edge and Executioner's Justice both gain ED and IAS, and our endgame unique ranking puts Ethereal Edge first. A Barbarian with the Strength might also try Veil of Steel at level 73.
Amazon: Eternity Bows and the Impaler
Eternity now fits bows and crossbows, which is the Amazon's biggest change. By our math, at level 99 an ethereal Colossus Crossbow reaches about 564 per hit against a Hydra Bow's 413, but it costs a Ber and a Sur, so test the idea before you commit. The Impaler gets +170-240% ED and Repairs 1 Durability in 4 Seconds, which suits an Impale build. Rogue's Bow gained +1-3 to Cold Arrow or Fire Arrow in Season 15, and that reaches Non-Ladder in Season 16. Our Eternity rework math has the full numbers.
Sorceress, Necromancer and Druid: The Caster Classes
Sorceress: The Salamander and Fire Ball
The Salamander is now +3 Fire Skills, +4 Fire Ball and +10% FCR at level 21, which stacks to +7 on Fire Ball. That makes a Fire Ball leveling route real, and it fits next to the Blizzard starts in our class tier list. It is still a leveling staff, and fire immunity will punish a pure Fire Ball build in Hell. Bane Ash also trades its IAS and ED for +20% FCR, which helps early casting.
Necromancer: Grim's Burning Dead
Grim's Burning Dead goes to +4 Necromancer skill levels and gains +3-5 Fire Golem and a 15% Reanimate As: Burning Dead Archer line. The +4 is the number that matters, but it is a two-handed Grim Scythe, so a summoner trades away a shield. It is worth testing for a fire-themed Necromancer. A standard summoner will probably keep the current gear. Gravenspine, a wand with +2 Necromancer skills, also gained +10% FCR in Season 15, and it is a much earlier option at level 20.
Druid: Earthshaker and Fire Claw
Earthshaker gains +3-5 to Fire Claw, a Druid-only skill. It already had +3 Elemental skills and a Fissure proc, so a Fissure Druid sees almost no change. Only a Druid mixing in shapeshifting cares. This is the smallest class change in the patch.
Assassin and Warlock: Little Directly
Assassin: Not Much Directly
The Assassin got no class-specific item changes in these notes. Trap and martial arts builds should keep the same gear plan. Anything she picks up comes from the general buffs, like Lava Gout's Cannot Be Frozen on gloves. We'd expect the same Assassin builds as last season.
Warlock: The Inferno Fix
The Warlock has no item or skill changes either. The one line is a bug fix: a bound demon no longer loses its behavior when Inferno is interrupted by traveling through a portal. If you play a Bind Demon build and portal out mid-fight, that matters. It is a repair, not a rebalance. The Warlock class overview covers the class itself.
FAQ
Did Patch 3.4 change any class skills?
Not in Blizzard's notes. They list item changes and bug fixes, and none of them touch skill numbers. The only class-specific lines are item bonuses for a single class, plus the Warlock's Inferno fix.
Which class gains the most from Patch 3.4?
On paper, Paladins and Sorceresses get the clearest leveling upgrades, and Amazons get the most interesting endgame experiment. That is a prediction from the numbers, not a result from play.
Do these build changes apply to Online Non-Ladder?
No. The Patch 3.4 item changes are for Online Ladder and Offline only. Non-Ladder keeps the old versions, apart from the Season 15 changes it receives in Season 16.
