Season 16 Launch Night: Your First 24 Hours in D2R
Season 16 opens Friday, Nov 13 at 5 PM PST. This plan covers the week of prep, the first three hours, when to sleep, how the clock looks in Europe and Asia, and which Patch 3.4 items are worth picking up early.
Plan your Season 16 day 1 around the clock as much as the route. The ladder opens Friday, Nov 13 at 5 PM PST (Saturday 1 AM GMT, 9 AM in China), so patch early, have a character name and a team ready, and decide when you sleep before you start.
This plan is for the launch itself. The leveling route and hour-by-hour pacing live in our ladder day 1 guide, and this post covers the time zones, the sleep decision and the Patch 3.4 items around it. Season 16 has not launched, so item comments are predictions. Dates come from Blizzard's Season 16 announcement.
Before Launch: Prep Over the Next Week
You have seven days from Nov 6. Spend them in this order.
- Today to Sunday: if you want a team, create an account and fill in your Ladder Setup now. A week out is the time to find a team, not launch night. This is also the weekend to run your stash check, because items from Season 14 left in Withdraw Only tabs are lost when Season 15 ends.
- Monday, Nov 9: Season 15 ends at 11 AM PST and Patch 3.4 starts rolling out. Update your client the first time you can, and sort any Expansion (LoD) Online characters you want in Reign of the Warlock, since that conversion closes on Nov 16.
- Tuesday to Thursday: read the patch notes, pick your starter class, set your keybinds and write down your first two goals. Our ladder reset prep checklist covers the settings side.
- Friday: eat properly, charge your headset and be in voice chat before 5 PM PST. Show up ten to fifteen minutes early.
Our Season 16 starter build picks help with the class decision.
Launch Night: The First Three Hours
The table shows what the clock looks like in each region.
| Moment | US West | US East | Europe (GMT / CET) | China / Korea |
|---|
| Launch | Fri 5 PM | Fri 8 PM | Sat 1 AM / 2 AM | Sat 9 AM / 10 AM |
| Hour 3 | Fri 8 PM | Fri 11 PM | Sat 4 AM / 5 AM | Sat 12 PM / 1 PM |
| Hour 8 | Sat 1 AM | Sat 4 AM | Sat 9 AM / 10 AM | Sat 5 PM / 6 PM |
| Hour 24 | Sat 5 PM | Sat 8 PM | Sun 1 AM / 2 AM | Sun 9 AM / 10 AM |
In the first hour, have the character made and sit in your team's voice channel. Expect crowded lobbies. Patch 3.4 fixes two lobby problems that bite on a night like this: searched games now appear even when the scroll list hides them, and Auto-Party Invite now actually puts players into games. Treat that as a reason for optimism, not a guarantee, because nobody has tested it at launch scale.
For the route itself, the day 1 guide above pushes a group into Act 2 during the second hour, and that is a fair benchmark to adjust from. We will not put level numbers on it, because the pacing depends on your class and your group. Our week 1 ladder goals show where you should be by the end of the weekend.
Your First Sleep
Decide your stop time before you start, and tell your team. The table shows why the answer differs: hour 8 is 1 AM Pacific, 4 AM Eastern, 9 AM GMT and 5 PM in China.
- US players: the Friday start gives you the whole weekend. A sensible plan is to play until you are tired, sleep without guilt and pick up Saturday morning.
- Europe: stay up if racing matters. If it does not, sleep through the 1 AM start and log in at breakfast, which still leaves you most of the weekend.
- Asia: you start on Saturday morning, so play through the day and sleep Saturday night. You will be awake while the Americas sleep.
Teams that span regions can hand off a farm across the clock. That is one of the better reasons to run a mixed-region roster, and the region filter on the teams page helps you find one.
The Rest of Season 16 Day 1
After your first sleep, stop chasing level for a moment and take stock. Check your stash, decide what to sell and what to hold from the first drops, and see what other teams are finding. Then set the next target. The day 1 guide picks up from there, and the week 1 goals frame the days after.
Patch 3.4 Items Worth Picking Up Early
These changes apply to Reign of the Warlock on Online Ladder and Offline. Everything below is a prediction until people play.
- The Salamander (level 21): adds +10% FCR, and its Fire Skills and Fire Ball bonuses rise to +3 and +4. A Fire Ball Sorceress is the obvious user.
- The Tannr Gorerod, The Grim Reaper and Dimoak's Hew: the first two take the biggest ED jumps in their range, and Dimoak's Hew gets a smaller ED bump plus +20 Strength. They are a Pike, a War Scythe and a Bardiche, weapon types an Act 2 mercenary can use.
- Silks of the Victor (level 28): gains FRW, IAS, ED and MF. Its base is Ancient Armor, which needs 100 Strength, so check your stat points before you hunt for it.
- The Atlantean: now level 35 with a Zeal bonus for Paladins and more ED.
- Griswold's Edge: trades Knockback for a chance to cast Amplify Damage, which should suit melee.
We would pick up the Salamander first if you start a Fire Ball Sorceress, and Silks second if you can meet the Strength. Everything else is a use-it-if-it-drops item until we see real prices. The before-and-after numbers for all of them are in our Patch 3.4 notes breakdown.
FAQ
What time should I be online for Season 16 launch?
Log in ten to fifteen minutes before 5 PM PST on Friday, Nov 13. That is 8 PM Eastern, 1 AM GMT on Saturday and 9 AM in China. Have your character name decided and your team in voice chat before then.
Should I stay up for the start if I am in Europe?
Stay up if you are racing or want the earliest trades. If you want a steady season, sleeping and logging in at 9 AM GMT, eight hours in, is fine, because the season runs for months. Pick one plan before Friday and stick to it.
Do I need to update before Season 16 launches?
Patch 3.4 starts rolling out on Monday, Nov 9, so update the client early in the week. Launch night is a bad time to find out you are behind.
Launch With People, Not Alone
A launch weekend is easier when someone covers the hours you are asleep. Create an account and browse the strategy templates to see how an organized team plans its run, and check the LFG board for groups forming. Our reset countdown is a second clock for Friday, and the D2 Hustlers Discord is where teammates coordinate the hour.
