Amazon Class Overview: Builds & Strengths
The Amazon is one of Diablo 2 Resurrected's most versatile damage dealers. Whether you pick javelins, bows or a hybrid of both, she clears fast with exceptional pierce mechanics and utility spells.
Amazon Class Overview
The Amazon is the archer and spear-thrower of Diablo 2 Resurrected. She wields three skill trees — Javelin and Spear, Bow and Crossbow, and Passive and Magic — and almost every meaningful Amazon build draws from at least two of them. Her strength is raw damage per attack and the ability to destroy entire packs before they get close enough to matter.
Skill Trees: The Three Pillars
The Javelin and Spear tree is pure offense. Skills like Charged Strike and Lightning Strike build stacking damage with each successive hit, while Fend lets her unleash a hail of projectiles. Power Strike procs guaranteed critical hits, which pairs perfectly with Pierce — the passive that makes every hit pass through its target and hit the next one. This tree is where pure javazon damage comes from.
The Bow and Crossbow tree is the control layer. Strafe lets her move and attack, Cold Arrow adds slowing for kiting, and Multishot spreads damage across packs. But the real star is Pierce in the passive tree: arrows inherit the missile damage from your gear, and when they pierce, they hit everything in a line. This is why Windforce bows and Exploding arrows trivialize content.
The Passive and Magic tree supplies utility and survival. Valkyrie, her summon, tanks for her while she controls from range. Decoy creates another distraction. Avoid and Evade scale dodge to absurd levels with the right gear, letting her smile while Act 2 mercs scratch the air around her. Inner Sight drops enemy defense to zero, and Slow Missiles gives her breathing room.
Signature Builds
Javazon is the damage ceiling pick. Charged Strike or Lightning Strike stack with each consecutive hit on the same target, and when paired with Crescent Moon runeword (for -35% Lightning Resistance on enemies), the damage becomes astronomical. Javas farm Hell at speeds that rival teleporting Sorceresses and beat most melee builds. The weakness is that single-target ramp-up takes a few hits, so she struggles with flying hordes until they close.
Bowazon (Windforce) is the ubiquitous pick and arguably the most consistent farmer. A high-rune bow like Faith or Windforce combined with multishot clears 80% of the game without breaking a sweat. She plays ranged, kites freely, and the only real threat is immunities — but every build has those. Gearing a Windforce zon from scratch is expensive, but once online, farming efficiency is exceptional.
Valkyrie-focused builds sacrifice damage for near-immortality. Maxing Valkyrie and pumping dodge with Avoid and Evade turns the Amazon into a tank that happens to shoot things. Mercs still die, bosses still take a minute, but you will almost never be in real danger. This playstyle appeals to casual grinders and anyone who has died too many times.
Hybrid or elemental Amazons try to stack cold damage (Ice Arrow, Cold Arrow, Cold mastery) or combine javelin and bow utility. These are niche; the pure paths are almost always more efficient.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Amazons excel at pack clear and pierce synergy. No other class weaponizes projectile pierce the way she does. Cone Attack from the Javelin tree and multishot from bows both benefit from stacking damage onto projectiles, and the pierce passive ensures each hit matters on every monster in a pack. She clears Cow Level and Chaos Sanctuary quickly because density farming is her specialty.
She also has exceptional utility. Decoy, Valkyrie, Avoid, Evade and Inner Sight solve positioning problems that other classes need items to answer. A well-geared Amazon with Fade on her merc and Valkyrie active is one of the hardest characters to kill in the game.
However, Amazons demand expensive gear to reach endgame. Javas want Crescent Moon and low-rune support; Bowazons want Faith or Windforce, both high-rune pieces. Without that gear, her damage floor is middle-of-the-road. She also struggles against phys-immune and cold-immune packs without a spec switch or diverse setup. Her survivability without maxed passives is average, and she has zero mana recovery tools — even with Insight, casters out-sustain her.
Gearing Arc: Leveling to Endgame
Fresh level 18+: Stealth armor, Lore helm, Spirit sword, Ral-rune bow (or find a hand bow), Dagger runeword for damage. Avoid and Decoy already trivialize content.
Early ladder (Act 2 Hell): Smoke or Duress armor (20-25% IAS is the IAS breakpoint for Javas at 34 FPA), Leaf staff swap for damage, Crescent Moon if you have the runes, Treachery merc armor (Fade procs solve most survival issues).
Mid-ladder (Chaos farming): Faith bow or Windforce, Grief for IAS swap, Fortitude or CoH armor, Capped resistances. This is the breakeven point where her clear time competes with top-tier builds.
Late ladder (Endgame): Breath of the Dying or Last Wish on sword for javazon; Windforce or Faith on bow; Enigma or CoH armor; Annihilus and Hellfire Torch; Capped resistances and Valkyrie keeps her safe while she farms 8-player bosses.
Which Amazon Build Fits You
Pick Javazon if you love single-target ramp-up and enjoy scaling into oblivion. Charging strikes feel rewarding, and the DPS ceiling is legitimate.
Pick Bowazon if you prefer "fire and forget" consistency. Set multishot on left click and clear rooms without thinking about attack order.
Pick Valkyrie hybrid if survival and chill gameplay matter more than speed. You will never die, and that peace of mind is worth the slower run times.
The Amazon is tactile and reward-heavy. Pick the tree that matches your playstyle, and you will be farming endgame faster than you expect.
