Windforce Bowazon Build Guide - D2 Resurrected
The Windforce Bowazon is D2R's signature ranged farmer: a Multiple Shot fan that knocks entire packs backward before they close distance, backed by Strafe's single-target burst on bosses. Full skills, stats, gear and farming routes inside.
Build Overview
The Windforce Bowazon is the archetype most players picture when they imagine a Diablo 2 ranged fighter: full plate, a massive bow, and an entire pack of monsters getting punted across the screen before they land a hit. Windforce's built-in Knockback isn't just flavor — it fundamentally changes how this build clears content. Multiple Shot fans five arrows across a wide arc, and every arrow that connects shoves its target backward, meaning melee-heavy areas like Countess Runs, Cow Level packs, and Pit rushes become nearly riskless once the build comes online.
Pros:
- Windforce's Knockback provides passive, no-effort crowd control that most classes have to build entire skill trees around
- Multiple Shot clears packs faster than almost any other physical build in the game
- Strafe adds strong single-target burst against bosses without a skill respec
- Naturally tanky for a ranged class thanks to Amazon's passive Dodge/Avoid/Evade tree
- Physical damage scales cleanly with Deadly Strike, Critical Strike, and Crushing Blow — all cheap, common modifiers
Cons:
- Physical immunes (mainly in Hell act bosses and certain unique packs) hard-wall the build without Amazon-specific pierce sources or a sunder charm
- Windforce itself is an expensive, sought-after unique — a real gold or trade investment
- Requires solid Attack Rating investment to avoid whiffing against high-defense Hell monsters
Stat Allocation
- Strength: just enough for your armor and Windforce (106 Strength required for the bow itself, plus armor requirements — typically settles around 140-170 with a heavier chest piece)
- Dexterity: heavy investment — Dexterity drives both to-hit and bow damage. Aim for 200+ baseline, more if you're not stacking many flat Attack Rating items
- Vitality: all remaining points; target 500+ life before charms for comfortable Hell farming
- Energy: none — base mana plus a few mana charms covers Multiple Shot and Strafe costs easily
Skill Order 1-99
Priority: Multiple Shot → Critical Strike → Penetrate → Strafe → Guided Arrow (utility) → Dodge/Avoid/Evade → Valkyrie/Decoy (1 point each).
- Start with 1 point in Magic Arrow for early flexibility against elemental-immune trash.
- Rush Multiple Shot to 20 as your core farming skill — it is a direct multiplier on your clear speed.
- Max Critical Strike immediately after; the double/triple damage chance is the single biggest DPS lever available to a physical bow build.
- Max Penetrate for Attack Rating — without it you'll whiff constantly against Hell's inflated monster defense.
- Put 1 point in Strafe once available (level 30) and consider a light second investment later for boss single-target reliability; some players max it as a secondary damage skill once Multiple Shot and Critical Strike are capped.
- 1 point each into Dodge, Avoid, and Evade — free survivability that scales with your character level.
- 1 point Valkyrie for a permanent tanky pet, 1 point Decoy for emergency aggro management, 1 point Slow Missiles for ranged-heavy zones.
- Remaining points go back into Strafe or a second look at Guided Arrow for physical-immune workarounds using elemental arrows (Ice/Fire/Lightning-branded ammo isn't native, so Guided Arrow physical is your fallback vs. immunes via the mercenary or a sunder charm).
IAS Breakpoints (Windforce, Matriarchal Bow, base -10 weapon speed)
| IAS% | Frames per shot | Shots/sec |
|---|
| 0% | 13 | 1.92 |
| 9% | 12 | 2.08 |
| 20% | 11 | 2.27 |
| 32% | 10 | 2.50 |
| 52% | 9 | 2.78 |
| 86% | 8 | 3.13 |
Windforce's native +30% IAS puts you close to the 20% breakpoint out of the gate; stack a pair of gloves or a Razortail-style bonus to comfortably clear the 32% or 52% thresholds for noticeably smoother Multiple Shot fans.
FHR Breakpoints (base 9-frame Amazon recovery)
| FHR% | Frames | Notes |
|---|
| 0% | 9 | avoid |
| 10% | 7 | budget floor |
| 20% | 6 | solid farming minimum |
| 32% | 5 | comfortable |
| 52% | 4 | premium, rarely needed for PvE |
Gear by Budget Phase

Mercenary Setup
Act 2 Might mercenary is the classic pairing — his aura buffs your physical damage output directly, compounding with your own Critical Strike and Deadly Strike chances. Gear him in Insight (ethereal polearm) if you want passive mana sustain for your team, or a Reaper's Toll for the Decrepify on-hit proc, which is extremely valuable against physical-immune uniques since Decrepify lowers physical resistance and can bring near-immunes into killable range.
Farming Targets
- Countess — fast, safe rune farming that funds the entire build's runewords
- The Pit and Tunnels (Ancient Tunnels) — dense packs, no line-of-sight obstruction issues, and Multiple Shot with Knockback clears them almost risk-free
- Cow Level — the single best target for this exact build. Cows are physical, non-immune, and cluster in huge groups that Multiple Shot devastates while Knockback keeps you safe. See the Cow Level farming guide for the portal recipe and route
- Travincal — the Council fight rewards a build that can Multiple Shot four casters at once while Knockback prevents their melee escort from closing
- Mephisto and Baal — reliable boss targets once Strafe is online for single-target burst
Leveling Route and Respec Timing
Level with Multiple Shot and Cold Arrow from the early teens — Cold Arrow's slow effect keeps you safe while you're squishy, and Multiple Shot's early points already clear packs efficiently. Pick up Strafe around level 30 for a taste of the endgame playstyle, but don't overinvest until you have the Attack Rating to support it. There's no need for a full respec later — this skill plan holds up from leveling through Hell farming, unlike more situational endgame trees, so you can build toward the final allocation gradually rather than banking a respec token for a hard pivot.
Common Mistakes and How to Fix Them
- Farming physical immunes without a plan: Act bosses and certain Hell uniques can be physical immune. Carry a sunder charm or fall back on the mercenary's Decrepify/elemental damage.
- Underinvesting in Attack Rating: Multiple Shot's five-arrow fan is only as good as your hit chance — stack Penetrate and gear AR bonuses (Raven Frost, Highlord's, a rare AR ring) rather than assuming raw damage alone carries the build.
- Skipping Critical Strike: it's easy to overvalue Multiple Shot's raw point count, but Critical Strike is a flat damage multiplier that scales your entire kit, including Strafe and Guided Arrow.
- Standing in melee range on purpose: even with great FHR, this is a ranged build. Kite, don't tank — Knockback works best when you're already repositioning, not standing still waiting for the shove to land.
- Ignoring the mercenary's aura uptime: the Might merc needs to stay alive and nearby to keep buffing your physical damage; losing him mid-pack fight is a real DPS loss, not just a flavor loss.
Windforce turns the Bowazon into one of the safest, fastest physical farmers in the game — the Knockback alone removes an entire category of risk that every other ranged class has to solve with kiting skill instead.
