Javazon (Lightning Fury) Build Guide - D2 Resurrected
Lightning Fury turns a single thrown javelin into a screen-clearing chain of bolts. This is the build that made the Amazon a farming legend, from Titan's Revenge starts to fully-charmed Cow runs.
Build overview
Lightning Fury (LF) is a charged-bolt-style Amazon skill: throw one javelin, and on impact it splits into multiple lightning bolts that arc between nearby enemies. Against a pack — cow herds, Chaos Sanctuary mobs, Travincal councils — that means one throw clears half the screen. Against single targets it is still respectable damage, just not what the skill is built for.
Pros:
- Best pack-clear speed in the game against non-lightning-immune targets
- Ranged, safe, and works with a shield for real survivability
- Gears up cheaply relative to its ceiling — Titan's Revenge alone carries you deep into Hell
- Excellent merc synergy; Might or Insight polearm builds cover your gaps
Cons:
- Fully lightning-immune monsters (a handful of Hell uniques and some act bosses) are dead stops without a secondary skill or a sunder charm
- Single-target damage is mediocre compared to bossing specialists like Hammerdins or Bone Necros
- Mana-hungry before Insight or a mana-per-kill setup is online
- Chain lightning bounces are best in open ground; tight corridors waste bounces

Stat allocation
- Strength: enough for your gear. Titan's Revenge needs 157 Strength unmodified; a Spirit Monarch shield adds more. Budget your points around whatever weapon/shield combo you're actually wearing, don't overshoot.
- Dexterity: enough to reach max (or near-max) block with your shield of choice, then enough for reasonable Attack Rating. LF's accuracy check happens on the javelin throw itself, so AR still matters even though the bolts themselves don't miss once the throw connects.
- Vitality: everything left over. This is a squishier ranged class than a Sorceress with Energy Shield, so vitality is not optional — you're tanking physical hits directly.
- Energy: none. Insight on the merc and a handful of mana charms/small mana pool management get you through Hell.
Skill order 1-99
Leveling plan, roughly:
- Jab to 1 point early (or skip if you're rushing to javelins), Power Strike 1 point, Lightning Bolt 1 point as a prerequisite
- Charged Strike — put a handful of points here through Normal/early Nightmare; it's your best pre-60 clear skill and doesn't need Lightning Fury's prerequisite chain finished
- At level 30 (Lightning Fury's requirement), start diverting points into Lightning Fury once you have Charged Strike online and Power Strike/Lightning Strike as prerequisites covered
End-game 20/20 plan (respec into this once leveled):
| Skill | Points | Notes |
|---|
| Lightning Fury | 20 | main attack |
| Charged Strike | 20 | synergy, +42% LF damage at 20/20 |
| Lightning Strike | 1 | prerequisite only |
| Power Strike | 1 | prerequisite only |
| Lightning Bolt | 1 | prerequisite only |
| Critical Strike | 20 | huge DPS multiplier, always max this |
| Dodge/Avoid/Evade | 1 each minimum | more if points remain |
| Valkyrie | 1 (or more with leftover points) | tanky pseudo-merc, absorbs aggro |
| Decoy | 1 | aggro tank, cheap to keep alive |
| Penetrate | enough for good AR, or skip if gear covers it | |
Remaining points after the core go into Valkyrie (each point adds meaningful HP and damage to her) or Pierce/Penetrate depending on your gear's Attack Rating.
Breakpoints
Amazon Attack Rating and IAS (from javelins) determine your throw speed. Titan's Revenge is a Fast weapon class ([10] WSM); combined with Fanaticism from your merc and IAS from gear, hit these IAS thresholds for meaningfully faster throws:
| IAS needed | Frames per throw | Notes |
|---|
| 0% | 13 | base, unmodified |
| 20% | 11 | first real breakpoint |
| 40% | 10 | comfortable mid-gear target |
| 68% | 9 | strong endgame target with War Traveler + gear IAS |
| 116% | 8 | near-max, hard to reach without Fanaticism stacking |
For Faster Hit Recovery, all classes share the universal FHR table:
| FHR needed | Frames |
|---|
| 0% | 20 |
| 3% | 19 |
| 7% | 18 |
| 10% | 17 |
| 13% | 16 |
| 16% | 15 |
| 20% | 14 |
| 25% | 13 |
| 32% | 12 |
| 42% | 11 |
| 52% | 10 |
| 65% | 9 |
| 86% | 8 |
Target 32% FHR minimum from gear (War Traveler + a ring/charm), 52% if you can spare the slots — you're in melee range of Chain Lightning's arc, and hit recovery keeps you throwing instead of flinching.
Gear by budget phase
Starter:
- Weapon: any javelin with +skills or ethereal War Javelin; Shield: any resist/block rare
- Armor: Twitchthroe or a cheap +skill rare; Helm: Tarnhelm or a rare
- Insight on the merc as soon as you can afford the runes (Ral Tir Tal Sol Ith); it fixes your mana problem entirely
Mid:
- Weapon: Titan's Revenge — the single biggest power spike in the build, huge crushing blow and open wounds on top of +3 Javelin skills
- Shield: Stormshield if you can, otherwise a rare with high block and resist
- Armor: Duriel's Shell or Shaftstop for physical mitigation, or Chains of Honor if it's in budget
- Boots: War Traveler; Gloves: Gore Rider isn't needed here (no melee), go IAS/resist gloves; Belt: Verdungo's or a rare
- Rings/Amulet: dual Raven Frost (cold damage + strength + can't-be-frozen is huge for a ranged squishy class), amulet with +Javelin and Lightning skills
Endgame:
- Full Titan's Revenge, Stormshield with a max block roll, Shaftstop or Fortitude armor for the resist/damage combo
- Griffon's Eye or a +skills circlet if you're respeccing gear priorities away from War Traveler MF
- Mara's Kaleidoscope for resistances plus +2 skills if your amulet slot is free
- Charms: Lightning skillers, small +max lightning charms, Annihilus and Torch for the full +skills/stat package
- A sunder charm dedicated to lightning covers the last true immunes
Mercenary setup
Act 2 Might mercenary in Nightmare difficulty (captured before you outlevel him) wielding an Insight polearm — the aura fixes your mana entirely and Might adds flat damage to your throws. Fanaticism is a strong alternative if you're comfortable managing your own mana pool through charms and MP-on-kill gear, since the attack speed and damage boost stacks with your own IAS breakpoints. Treachery armor on the merc gives him Fade for extra survivability and a free Weaken proc. Vampire Gaze or a Tal Rasha's Horadric Crest rounds out his helm slot.
Best farming targets
- Secret Cow Level — the signature Javazon farm. Cow packs are dense, non-immune, and LF's chain bounces turn each throw into a multi-kill. See the Cow Level farming guide for the portal recipe and route.
- Travincal — the Council members die fast to chained bolts and the run is short and repeatable.
- Chaos Sanctuary — Oblivion Knights and Doom Knights aren't lightning immune, and the open terrain lets bolts bounce freely between packs.
- Pit and Ancient Tunnels — dense non-immune trash, good level 85 area drops, and open enough layouts for bolt chains.
- Terror zones — rotate in whichever zone isn't heavily lightning immune that week; LF trivializes most of them.
Leveling route and respec timing
Level with Charged Strike and Jab through Normal — Charged Strike doesn't need the full Lightning Fury prerequisite chain and clears packs respectably from the low 20s onward. Push through Nightmare on Charged Strike, picking up Valkyrie and Decoy along the way for survivability. Once you hit level 30 and have farmed enough gold/runes for a real Insight or mana setup, do your Council of Elders respec straight into the 20/20 Lightning Fury/Charged Strike plan above. Respeccing too early — before level 30 or before you have mana sustain — leaves you throwing single, unsupported javelins that miss the point of the skill entirely.
Common mistakes
- Fighting lightning immunes head-on. Check the monster's resistance bar before committing points and potions; some Hell uniques are fully immune and no amount of -resist gear breaks a true 100% immune without a sunder charm.
- Neglecting Critical Strike. It's a flat, no-downside damage multiplier — 20 points here outperforms almost any other point sink for pure kill speed.
- Skipping mana management. Without Insight or a real mana pool, Lightning Fury spam stalls out mid-pack, which defeats the entire purpose of the skill.
- Standing still in melee range. LF wants distance — the bounce mechanic works better against spread packs, and you avoid a lot of physical damage by kiting instead of standing in the middle of a cow herd.
- Underinvesting in FHR. Getting stunlocked while trying to line up throws is the single biggest cause of Hardcore Javazon deaths; 32-52% FHR should be a non-negotiable gear target.
Between Titan's Revenge and a starter Insight merc you already have a Hell-viable farmer; everything past that is optimization. Pair this with the Starter Javazon guide if you're building from nothing on a fresh ladder, or check the Windforce Bowazon guide if you want to compare the ranged physical alternative.
