D2R LFG: Where to Find Players and Groups in Season 16
Where to look for a D2R group in Season 16: the game lobby, Discord servers, the site run finder and ladder teams. Covers the Patch 3.4 lobby fixes, how to write an LFG post people answer, and how to vet a group.
For D2R LFG (looking for group), use the in-game lobby for a quick run, a Discord server for a crew you can talk to, and the site's /lfg board for posted runs with signups. For a whole season, add a ladder team. Each one answers a different question: who is online right now, and who will still be there in week three.
Season 16 starts Friday, November 13 at 5 PM PST, and Patch 3.4 begins rolling out on Monday, November 9. Blizzard's Season 16 post lists two lobby fixes that matter if you party up with strangers. We have not played the patch yet, so read the effects below as what should happen, not what did.
Four Ways to Find a D2R Group, Compared
| Where | Best for | Weak spot |
|---|
| In-game lobby | A Baal run or Countess train in the next ten minutes | Strangers vanish, and nothing carries over to tomorrow |
| Discord server | A regular crew with voice and a schedule | Replies without follow-through; quality depends on moderation |
| /lfg run finder | A posted run with roles, signups and a host who accepts or declines | It finds runs, not season-long teams |
| Ladder teams and the player pool | A fixed 8-man roster for the whole season | Needs a few minutes of profile setup first |
No single row wins. We use the lobby when we want XP now, Discord when we want people to talk to, and a team when we want a plan. Mixing them works best: meet someone in a lobby, move the good ones to Discord, and invite them to a roster.
The Patch 3.4 Lobby Fixes
Blizzard's Patch 3.4 notes include two fixes aimed at exactly this. First, games you find through lobby search used to get lost when they sat outside the visible part of the scrolling list. They now show up. Second, Auto-Party Invite, the game lobby's own invite option, now actually places the players it invites into the game.
On paper that helps both sides: a host fills a public game with fewer "where did you go?" messages, and a searcher stops losing the one game that matched. Neither fix is tested yet, so the first night of Season 16 is the real trial. Keep a Discord voice channel as a backup. When the lobby misbehaves, the voice channel still has your people in it.
D2R Discord Servers and the /lfg Group Finder
A D2R Discord server is only as good as its last message. Before you post, check when the LFG channel was last active, read the pinned rules, and see whether the voice channels have people in them at your hours. Join two or three servers, not ten. Treat each one as a place to meet people, not a place to hand over anything valuable: no account details, ever, and no early trades with someone you met an hour ago.
Our own /lfg page is the Run Finder for Baal, Chaos, Cows, Rush, Ubers and Terror Zone runs. It is built around runs, not rosters. Anyone can browse it, but you need to be logged in to post or join. A host sets the run type, difficulty, Softcore or Hardcore, ladder or non-ladder, a player cap of up to eight, the roles they need and a note. To join, pick a role (Killer, Leecher, Rusher, Baaler, Taxi or Any) and add a short note with your class and level. The host accepts or declines, and a Message organizer button covers questions.
The Waitlist tab lets you queue for a run type and get matched when someone posts one, though entries run on a countdown and you rejoin when one runs out. The My Runs tab points you to Discord for game names and timing once you are accepted.
Writing a D2R Looking for Group Post
Most LFG posts fail because they say nothing. "Anyone playing ladder?" gets no answers, since nobody can tell whether they fit. A D2R looking for group post people answer has five parts: the ask, your region and hours, what you bring, whether you use a mic, and how to reply.
EU, Softcore ladder. Looking for 3 more for Baal runs, Sunday to Thursday, 8 to 11 PM CET. I'm a level 74 Blizzard Sorc with Teleport and need a Hammerdin or a Smiter. Mic preferred, not required. Reply with your class, level and hours.
A few habits help on top of that. Name the mode, because Softcore versus Hardcore and ladder versus non-ladder decides who can join you at all. Say what you do not want, such as leeching or gear trades. Answer every reply, even with a no, because people remember the ones who did. The same structure fits an application message to a team captain, and the title, roles needed and notes boxes on the /lfg Post a Run form map neatly onto it; captains recruiting a whole roster can start from the recruitment post templates.
Vetting a Group Before You Commit
Run one trial session before you commit a season to anyone. Normal difficulty is plenty. Watch whether they show up when they said they would and warn you before they run late. Loot rules should be agreed before a good drop, not after.
Red flags are easy to spot once you look: pressure to trade valuables early, requests for your login, and vague answers about schedule. Our scam guide lists the trade patterns, and the same instincts apply to people. For the longer game, making friends during ladder reset covers how run partners become teammates, and where to find ladder players covers the rest of the map. Other Discord communities and the plain in-game lobby are fair choices too. The vetting steps are the same wherever you look.
FAQ
Is there a built-in LFG tool in D2R?
Sort of. The game lobby lists public games and lets you search them, and Auto-Party Invite handles invites. It finds you a run, not a crew. Patch 3.4 fixes two bugs in it, but it still cannot tell you who is reliable.
How do I find a D2R group that plays at my hours?
Put your timezone and hours in the post, in local time plus one reference zone. Then filter the player pool by region and read each team's region and mission statement so you only see people who share your clock. Overlap in hours matters more than skill for a group that plays every week.
Is it safe to join a random D2R Discord server?
Mostly, if you stay sensible. Read the rules, turn off DMs from strangers, and never share account details or trade valuables with someone you just met. A server with active moderators and recent messages is a better bet than a big one that has gone quiet.
Post a Run or Find a Roster
Browse or post a run on /lfg when you want people tonight. When you want people for the season, create an account at /register, fill in your Ladder Setup, and look through the free-agent pool and the open teams. Our Discord is where groups talk between runs.
