How to Start Your Own D2R Team for Season 16
How to start a D2R team for Season 16: creating it on D2 Hustlers, choosing region, mode, ruleset and commitment, writing the mission statement, planning 8 slots and a bench, picking a strategy, and keeping the roster together.
To start a D2R team for Season 16, log in, open /ladder/create-team, fill in the form (name, region, mode, ruleset, commitment, mission statement and up to eight class-and-build slots) and press Create Team. The site seats you as captain in the first slot straight away, so recruiting can begin the same minute.
Season 16 starts Friday, November 13 at 5 PM PST (8 PM EST), and Blizzard's announcement puts the Saturday starts at 1 AM GMT for Europe and 9 AM CST for Asia. D2 Hustlers runs a community ladder on the Reign of the Warlock ruleset with 8-man teams, separate from Blizzard's official leaderboard and not affiliated with Blizzard. A roster holds 8 active players and 4 on the bench, and an account can sit on one team per season.
How Do You Create a D2R Team on D2 Hustlers?
1. Make an account and log in. Sign up at /register with a username, email and password, or use the Register with Discord button. Teams belong to accounts, and the create form needs you logged in.
2. Open the form. Press + Create Team on the teams page, or go straight to /ladder/create-team.
3. Fill it in. Team Name is the only required field and every other field has a default, so a team is easy to launch with the wrong region or ruleset. The next sections go field by field.
4. Press Create Team. The site opens the new team page. An account that is already on a roster this season gets an error instead, with a View your current team link.
5. Open the Overview tab. The preferred composition shows each slot as Open or Filled. The first one already reads Filled.
Which Region, Mode, Ruleset and Seriousness Should a Team Pick?
Set these to match how the team will really play, because players filter and search on them.
- Region. The dropdown lists NA, EU and ASIA. Pick the realm the team plays on, not wherever the captain happens to live.
- Mode. Softcore or Hardcore.
- Ruleset. The dropdown starts on LoD and also offers Classic and RotW. Switch to RotW (Reign of the Warlock) for this ladder before saving.
- Commitment. Casual, Semi-Serious, Serious or Race. This is the badge on the team card and the filter players use on the teams page, so it is the label they meet first.
- Seriousness. Six steps from Casual and Semi-Serious through Serious and Race to All Nighter and 99 Racer, and the teams page has a Seriousness filter for them. Keep it in line with Commitment.
- Reset Window (h). Hours after launch. The fit score on player cards gives timing credit to a free agent who cannot start at launch but whose listed delay fits inside it.
- Status. New Team or Returning Team, shown as a badge on the card.
The last checkbox, Open for applications, is ticked by default. Despite the label, an open team lets any logged-in player press Join Team and take the first open active slot with no application at all. Untick it and the button reads Request to Join, which sends an application the captain answers. Strict Mode (applicants must match class and build) disables the apply button for players whose saved Main class and first build do not fit an open slot, so reserve it for a slot the plan truly depends on.
Read the form twice before pressing Create Team. The team page gives the captain an Edit Notes button, while region, mode, ruleset, the mission statement and the open setting come from this form.
What Should a D2R Team Mission Statement Say?
The mission statement works as the recruiting ad. The team card shows about three lines of it, and the search box on the teams page reads it, so open with the facts a stranger needs: mode and ruleset, region and hours with a timezone, how seriously launch weekend will be played, voice, and how loot is split. Then name what is missing. "Need a Paladin and a Barbarian" gets more replies than "players wanted".
EU Semi-Serious Softcore RotW team. Launch weekend together, then three evenings a week, 8 to 11 PM CET. Mic preferred. Runes pooled, uniques go to whoever can use them. Need a Paladin, a Barbarian and one more Sorceress.
Ready-made versions for casual, taxi, hardcore and Europe or Asia teams are in the D2R recruitment post templates.
How Do You Plan 8 Slots and a Bench?
The Team Composition grid holds eight slots, each a class and a build. Every class has a fixed build list: Sorceress offers Blizz, Fireball/Meteor, Lightning, Nova, Orb and Tele/Taxi, for example. Pick the nearest label and put the exact build in the mission statement.
Slot one is the captain's, because the site seats the creator there as Leader. Enter your own class and build first, and leave a slot blank when any class will do. The 8-man roles guide explains what each seat in a taxi comp does.
The bench is separate: up to 4 players with no seat in the composition grid. A player reaches it when a captain picks Place on Bench while approving an application, or when an invited player chooses Bench while accepting. A benched player moves into an open slot when the captain presses Assign... on that slot in the Overview tab.
Which Strategy or Comp Should a New Team Adopt?
After the team exists, the strategy library and the compositions library show an Adopt for button on every plan, visible to the captain and to officers. Adopting a comp fills open slots and leaves filled ones alone, so the captain's own slot stays put. Adopting a strategy writes its acts and tasks into the team plan and asks before replacing one that already exists.
Match the plan to the hours the roster really has. Taxi Strat 3.0 assumes eight players in the same game, which suits a Race or Serious team and strains a casual one. A team of four to six friends can copy the job split and loosen the timings. The casual team guide and the hardcore team guide cover the two ends of the range.
What Should a Launch-Night Plan and Rules Cover?
Write the plan before the first member joins, and paste it into Team Notes (the captain edits them with Edit Notes on the Overview tab). Notes and the Strategy tab show on the public team page, so keep private details out. The plan should answer five questions:
- When does everyone start? Friday 5 PM PST, Saturday 1 AM GMT for Europe, Saturday 9 AM CST for Asia. The start date guide has every region.
- How does the party form? D2R has no clan or guild channel, so the group connects through the in-game friends list, a game name and password, and whatever voice chat the team picks. Say who creates the first game.
- Who does which job? Match each slot to a task and a first level goal.
- When does the team sleep? Name who covers the game while others rest.
- What are the rules? Loot split, mic or text, and what happens when someone disconnects or runs late.
The Strategy tab can hold the plan as acts and tasks per slot, and everyone on the roster gets a Run button for it. Once a few players have joined, the captain or an officer can schedule team runs from the Run Schedule tab on the reset page, and the rest of the roster gets a notification. The launch night plan lays out a first-24-hours timeline to borrow from.
How Do You Keep a D2R Roster Together?
Run one trial session before launch, because hour three tells more than any application. Message the roster two days out with the start time in each person's timezone. Answer applications within a day, since an applicant sees Status: pending until a captain acts.
Share the load. The Roster tab lets a captain set a trusted player to Officer, and officers can adopt plans and schedule runs while the captain sleeps. When a seat empties, the Suggested Players to Invite panel on the ladder overview ranks free agents by fit and opens a slot picker for each invite. A captain who must step away cannot simply leave: Transfer Ownership on the Roster tab hands the team to another member first.
FAQ
How many players does a D2R team need to start?
Only the captain. The create form seats the creator and nobody else, and applications, invites and open joins fill the rest. Rosters hold 8 active players and 4 bench players.
Should a new D2R team be open or closed?
Open suits friends and relaxed groups, because anyone logged in can take a free slot without an application. Closed suits teams with a fixed plan: applicants have to ask, and the captain can use the conversation box to check hours, timezone and mic first.
How does a captain hand over or disband a D2R team?
On the Roster tab, pick a member under Transfer Ownership and press Promote to Owner. Disband Team is only available when the captain is the last member on the roster.
How early should a captain start recruiting?
As soon as the team exists, since a trial session before the Friday launch is worth more than any form. The guide to finding a Season 16 team shows the search from the player side.
Create the Team, Then Fill the Seats
Log in, open /ladder/create-team, and set the ruleset to RotW before pressing Create Team. Then look through the free-agent page, post a trial run on /lfg, and use the recruitment post templates for the ad. Free agents read how to get picked up by a Season 16 team, so expect cards that follow it. The teams page shows how other captains write theirs.
