Diablo 5 is due in Spring 2029, and Blizzard officially announced it at BlizzCon 2026. That is the only timing Blizzard has given as of November 2026: no month, no day and no platform list. The facts come from Blizzard's BlizzCon 2026 opening ceremony recap and its Diablo V panel post. Anything Blizzard has not said is marked as unannounced instead of guessed.

Blizzard's release line is "Coming Spring 2029." Diablo V is officially in development and still early in that process, which makes the window a target more than two years out as of November 2026. What Is Diablo 5 Called, and How Was It Revealed?
The official name is Diablo V, written with a Roman numeral, but Diablo 5 is the spelling most players search for, so this site uses both. Blizzard revealed the game at the BlizzCon 2026 Opening Ceremony. A panel titled Diablo V: Forging the Next Era ran on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 1:45 p.m. PT on the Main Stage, hosted by Johanna Faries.
Blizzard calls the reveal a first glimpse of the game and does not give the trailer a title. No director or lead is named, and the announcement posts are signed by the Diablo V team.
What Is the Diablo 5 Story About?
Blizzard's premise is bleak: Sanctuary has fallen, Diablo has won, and the heroes of the past are gone or failed. Diablo conquered Sanctuary as a stepping stone to invading the Heavens. He rules from the throne of Westmarch and uses the world's people and souls as weapons in the Eternal Conflict, and he is present from the moment the game begins. Diablo 5 Story: Diablo Has Won and Sanctuary Has Fallen adds background from the earlier games.
Who Is the Heir to Westmarch?
The player is the Heir to Westmarch, on the run through the charred remains of a kingdom that is now an outpost of Hell. The Heir has a mysterious connection to Diablo that makes them both a threat to him and uniquely vulnerable to his influence. The title and the premise meet in one place: the player is the Heir to Westmarch, and Westmarch is also where Diablo's throne now sits. Blizzard has not named the Heir or any other hero.
What Are the Diablo 5 Classes?
Blizzard has revealed three classes and calls them the first three, so more are planned:
- Demon Hunter (returning): twin crossbows, strikes from the shadows and leaps across the battlefield.
- Monk (returning): fights with fists and calls down holy power.
- Plague Knight (all new): spreads disease and consumes it for power.
Blizzard says combat, progression and build details are still to come, and it has not said how many classes the game will have in total. The written announcements describe each class in a line or two and do not describe any of them as playable. Diablo 5 Classes: Demon Hunter, Monk and Plague Knight goes through each description.
How Do the Caravan and the Changing Western Continent Work?
Diablo V has no towns or strongholds to survive in. The Heir builds a caravan of allies who travel along and act as vendors and companions. Blizzard's named examples are a former Sister of the Sightless Eye and a stranded Treasure Goblin, and some humans have been corrupted into Dread Commanders.
The Western Continent is at the heart of Diablo's reign. Blizzard says terrain, points of interest, monsters and rewards change when you return. Blizzard does not describe Diablo V as open world, so whether the game is one has not been answered.
Will Diablo 5 Have Runewords?
Blizzard says Diablo V's crafting system includes Diablo II-style Runes and Runewords, and that the system is inspired by the approach in Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred. Itemization as a whole is inspired by Diablo II. Blizzard is experimenting with stat requirements on gear and has not decided, larger items take up more inventory space again, and gear-based sets return. The stated goal is items that are readable, memorable and worth chasing for hundreds of hours.
That is a direction, not a finished system. Each of those ideas already exists in Diablo II: Resurrected, which is where this site's databases come in:
| Blizzard's idea | Where to see it in Diablo II: Resurrected |
|---|
| Stat requirements on gear | Strength and Dexterity minimums on armor and weapons, such as 103 Strength for Archon Plate |
| Larger items take more inventory space | A 10 by 4 backpack where charms compete with loot |
| Gear-based sets | Tal Rasha's Wrappings, with bonuses at 2, 3, 4 and 5 pieces |
| Runes and Runewords | Recipes such as Spirit and Enigma |
Diablo 5 Itemization: Runewords, Sets and Stat Requirements explains each idea with real examples from the runeword database and the item database.

How to Sign Up for Diablo 5 Updates
Blizzard's sign-up page is diablo5.blizzard.com, where players can register for future updates. Blizzard has not announced a beta, so signing up is for news, not for a confirmed test. With regular development updates planned from 2027, the sign-up page and Blizzard's own news posts are the places to watch. This guide reflects Blizzard's posts as of November 7, 2026.
What Else Did Blizzard Announce With Diablo 5?
A Diablo animated series is in development with Netflix, with no title or date yet. Blizzard also marked Diablo's 30th anniversary and says more than 130 million players have played across the franchise.
Blizzard's ceremony coverage included Diablo IV news too. The Amazon, Diablo IV's first class pack, is planned for the first half of 2027 with four archetypes called Champion, Skirmisher, Ranger and Commander, and the Diablo IV: Age of Hatred Collection, which bundles the base game with both expansions, launched on Nintendo Switch 2 on September 15, 2026. Diablo 4 After BlizzCon 2026: Amazon, Switch 2 and More has the details, and Diablo 5 vs Diablo 4 compares what Blizzard has shown of each.
Diablo IV itself is still running seasons. Season 15, Season of Hell's Legacy, has been live since September 15, 2026, with a 30th anniversary theme that brings back Deckard Cain, Diablo, Baal and Mephisto. A Season 16 test realm ran on PC from October 27 to November 3, and the live date has not been announced. Diablo 4 Season 16 PTR: Tyrael's Boons and Horadric Items covers what was tested.
Where to Play Diablo-Style Itemization Until 2029
Blizzard says Diablo V's itemization is inspired by Diablo II, and Diablo II: Resurrected is the game that has that system today. Its ladder Season 16 starts Friday, November 13, 2026, at 5 PM PST (8 PM EST). The Season 16 start date guide lists the time for every region, how to find a D2R Season 16 team walks through joining a roster, and open teams are on the teams page. What to Play While You Wait for Diablo 5 covers the other Diablo games too. D2 Hustlers is a fan community and is not affiliated with Blizzard.
